Mobile apps aren’t magic wands that can fix all your life problems, but app technology can improve many areas of your life. Health and wellness apps help monitor your habits in order to improve your lifestyle.

With so many health and fitness apps available, it might be hard to know which ones to choose. So, we compiled a list of six of the top health apps of 2019!

Whether you’re trying to lose weight or just trying to improve your overall wellness, there’s an app for that.

Six of the Top Health Apps of 2019

If you love health and wellness, and you enjoy tracking data, then you’ll love this list of 6 of the best health and fitness apps in 2019. You may even want to check out this guide on how to become a medical administrative assistant!

Whether you have a head for data or not, these six apps can help anyone in their health and wellness journey.

1. Calm (Mental Health & Wellness)

Calm was the Apple App of the Year in 2017, but it still holds the #1 ranking in the “Top Free Health and Wellness Apps” in the Apple app store. After all, wellness begins with the mind, and this app will help you to have a calmer mind.

The Calm app is filled with meditations, music, and sleep stories that are designed to lower your stress, to help you relax, and to guide you into better sleep.

The app is free to download but requires a subscription to gain full access to all materials.

2. MyFitnessPal (Nutrition and Food Tracking)

A perennial favorite among personal health apps, the MyFitnessPal app is best known for its extensive food database, with over 11 million foods in the database. There are even many popular restaurant dishes included!

This app makes it easy to track the calories and other nutritional information of all your food intake throughout the day. You can also link your account to other apps (such as Fitbit or MapMyRun) to see a complete picture of your health and wellness.

Paid subscriptions are available, but unlike a lot of health and fitness apps, this one offers quite a lot with just the free account.

3. Fitbit (Activity Tracker, Sleep Monitor, and Overall Fitness Monitor)

This one is ranked #6 in the “Top Free Best Health and Fitness Apps” in the Apple App Store.

The app is free to download, but because the Fitbit app works in connection with a Fitbit device, you will have to invest in a device to really get the most out of this app. You’ve probably noticed more and more of your coworkers and family members wearing their little Fitbit smartwatches, and maybe you’ve even joined in on a friendly step competition!

Fitbit monitors your activity throughout the day and encourages you to set daily step goals — giving you a little congratulatory message with fireworks once you’ve met your goal each day.

One of the coolest Fitbit features, however, is that the device tracks your heart rate as you sleep. In the morning, the app shows you a report of how you slept, and how much time was spent in each phase of sleep (deep, light, or REM sleep).

In addition to sleep and exercise, there are several other items in the app that you can choose to track, such as your weight, the amount of water drank each day, your menstrual cycle, etc.

4. Seven (Personal Exercise Challenge)

Do you feel like you’re too busy to find time to exercise? If so, you’re not alone — nearly half of Americans say that “lack of time” is the reason why they don’t exercise.

Enter Seven, the Editor’s Choice app of Google Play for 2019.

The idea behind the app is to challenge you to workout for just seven minutes a day. According to the app’s homepage, the personalized workouts are “based on scientific studies to provide the maximum benefit in the shortest time possible.”

Unlike some other health and fitness apps, with Seven you can choose a customized workout plan based on your own needs and challenges.

The app is free to download and comes with a 7-day free trial period to all app features. The paid subscription to continue with full access is $10USD a month, though some features are still available for free.

5. ShopWell (Nutrition Information)

ShopWell is a free app that helps to simplify nutrition labels on food products.

First, you create a personalized Food Profile in the app where you identify your allergies, dislikes, dieting goals, etc.

Then, when you’re out shopping, you can scan any food item’s barcode and the app will give you a personalized report of how it will (or won’t) fit into your dietary needs. You will receive a simplified list of the food’s ingredients, as well as a score of how well it matches your diet goals.

6. Fabulous (Overall Lifestyle)

The Fabulous app is one of the best overall wellness apps out there. This app is all about coaching you into “The Fabulous You,” by building healthier habits in every area of your life in order to improve your overall wellness.

The habits include things like drinking more water, eating a healthy breakfast, taking time to meditate or exercise, etc. The app will create a personalized plan for you based on what you want to work on.

Fabulous has a 7-day free trial, after which the subscription will cost $49.99 a year.
